Since its establishment in Spain in 1971 by Mr. Mauricio Hatchwell Toledano, the Excem Grupo has evolved very successfully from a Spanish trading company to a diversified international group with areas of activity that include cement, telecommunications and the provision of consultancy services to large Groups.
We create value through our extensive knowledge of international business, our flexibility and the establishment of the appropriate alliances in local markets. Our commitment to large emerging markets such as China has positioned the group to enable it to participate in the strong growth of these regions in the forthcoming years. Our diversification toward value-added services in telecommunications and HLS represents an additional pillar for our existing businesses.

Mr. Mauricio Hatchwell Toledano was born in Casablanca (Morocco) in 1940 and married Monique Altaras, with whom he had three children.
In the Spanish business world and until his death, he excelled as President and founder of the Excem Group. Over 35 years the cement division built up a solid international network of alliances and is currently one of the largest independent traders in southern Europe.
His business and cultural initiatives in Spain included his presidency of the Sephardi Federation and his patronage activities with various universities and foundations, an activity that he also performed abroad.
Mr. Hatchwell was, moreover, a very active member of cultural, academic, business and social circles in France, Israel, China and the USA, holding positions on the governing bodies of various academic institutions in those countries.
Among other special recognitions, in 1995 Mr. Hatchwell received the Jerusalem 3000 award (presented by the Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated shortly afterwards), the command of the Order of Civil Merit, awarded in 1999 by the Spanish Government, and the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord in 1990.
He died on September 28, 2011 in the city of Madrid.
David Hatchwell holds an M.B.A. in International Business and Finance from New York University and is a graduate of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington DC.
He worked at Goldman Sachs, NY, in the Corporate Finance Department and then moved to the Treasury Department at the Republic National Bank of New York, now HSBC. Mr. Hatchwell led EXCEM Group’s operations in China for 15 years and currently also acts as CEO of Excem Group’s Consulting & Investment Division.
Mr. Hatchwell is the Chairman of the Excem Group Board.
Philip Hatchwell holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Buckingham (England).
He first worked at Republic National Bank, NY, in the Asset Management Division, and later at Goldman Sachs, NY, in the Trading Division. Currently, and after working in the company since 1994, he also acts as CEO of the Cement Division as well as being the CEO of Cementos Occidentales, S.A.
Mr. Hatchwell is a Member of the Excem Group Board.
Kareen Hatchwell holds a degree in Business Administration from New York University.
She has worked at Excem Group since 1997, directing Spanish companies in sectors such as textiles, jewelry and food with a presence in the Chinese market for both the production and marketing of their products. As Director for Institutional Relations for Excem Group, she was in charge of tracking Excem China’s consultancy and assessment services. She is currently Excem Group’s Counselor and Director of China Operations.
Kareen Hatchwell is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija (Madrid) and the Excem Group Representative in the Spain-China Council Foundation.
